Announcements

October 20, 2019

1.     All Saint's Sunday

The arrangement of our holy communion & baptism service on Nov 3, All Saints' Sunday, will be:

i)        9:30am Mandarin service

ii)       11am bilingual Cantonese and English service

2.     Transition Planning 2020

i)        Bishop Jenny has appointed Rev. Canon Jim Woolley as our Interim Priest beginning on Dec 26, 2019. Canon Woolley recently retired after a distinguished 30+ years of ministry at St. Thomas à Becket Anglican Church (Mississauga). Though this is a 50% time appointment, Canon Woolley will be fully present for Sunday morning worships across our 3 ministries.

While Canon Woolley is an English-speaking priest he will officiate Cantonese and Mandarin worships. During this interim time, Cantonese and Mandarin worships will be aided by guest speakers. We are honoured to have Bishop Patrick Yu preach throughout January and thankful that he will lead training in lay preaching to our Cantonese-speaking members. More details to follow.

In the coming weeks, Bishop Jenny will be sending a video message to all St. E parishioners explaining our progress, upcoming plans and providing clarification on some questions raised so far.

More updates to follow as the leadership team continues to plan and prepare.

We are thankful for the support from the various clergy, coaches, parishioners and volunteers. Praise to the Lord for His blessings to this parish.

ii)       We have been assigned two Congregational Development Coaches from the Diocese who will assist us throughout the transition process: Ms. Marilyn Yeung for Chinese Ministry and Ms. Elizabeth McCaffrey for English Ministry. Bishop Jenny has been scheduled to join us at our first Parish Consultation on Sunday January 26, 2020 with our coaches. Kindly mark your calendars. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to your small group leaders, department chairs, PAB members or the churchwardens to provide your feedback or concerns.

iii)     Thanks to Mary and Martin for taking the notes from the Q&A during the town hall on Sep 8. The notes are posted on the bulletin board and available on our website. https://www.stechurch.com/townhall

5.     Fr. Bill‘s Vacation

According to the policy of the diocese and our Bishop’s request, Fr. Bill will have his vacation on Nov 4 to 17 and Dec 9 to 15.

6.     Christmas Celebration Party

Annual Christmas party will be held on the Saturday evening of December 14 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. On that evening, we will serve quarter chicken with delicious side dishes and desert, sing carols, play games, have performances, self-served photo booth and surely will enjoy an evening of fellowship together. To help us prepare the right amount of food, please pick up a ticket after service today. Ticket is $12.- per adult, $8.- per child between 5 and 12 years of age and free for under 5.

7.     Nov-Dec Roster

Nov-Dec rosters are being prepared in the coming weeks.  To help simplify the preparation process we ask all existing roster members and new members interested in serving to sign up for their postings on the blank roster sheet posted on bulletin board this week.  Any remaining blank spaces will be assigned to existing members by roster coordinator.  Thank you for your support.  Please contact Fenella with your concerns, feedback or planned absences.

8.     Responding to Mayor Crombie's Thanksgiving Food Drive

Please bring the foods to the boxes in the hallway at church on or before Oct 29.

9.     Baptism

Our next date for baptism will be Nov 3 (All Saints' Sunday).  If you would like to know more about baptism, please contact Fr. Bill.

10.  Housekeeping Chores

As you all agree, our church lawn and flower garden are looking better every year.  There is no doubt that maintaining it requires a lot of love, care and time.  Starting July till October, you can be part of our lawn and garden maintenance team.  Please come and join us the last Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.  Mark your calendar and show some support!  Please contact Tali Wong or email to propertymgt@stechurch.com so we can schedule and plan ahead.  Thank you.

Pastoral Care

If you know someone who is sick, hospitalized or needs pastoral care, please inform Fr. Bill Mok as soon as you can.

Church Donation Envelopes

Church donation envelopes are available on the front desk.  For those who have donation numbers, you have four different kinds of envelopes: Operation, Thanksgiving, Building and Special.  Tax receipts will be issued for donations over $10 within a year.  If you are interested to have a donation number, please contact Josephine Cheung.

Good Stewardship

Starting in January 2019, our good stewardship program will be changed.  To reduce the administration time and cost maintaining the program, we will join the Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) program from the National office of the United Church of Canada. Over 100 parishes in our diocese are currently using them.  For the existing donors on the good stewardship program, we will prepare the new registration form and our wardens will reach out to you in person for the transition process.  This is also the best time for anyone to join the program.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Good Stewardship coordinator Amy Chiu (par@stechurch.com) or the churchwardens.
